Analytics4Assets, focused on EDP Distribuição high voltage network assets, is an AI initiative with Accenture to optimize network investment and maintenance.
Over the past few years, based on best practices implementation as recommended in ISO 55.000, EDP Distribuição adopted Asset Management methodologies. The company makes a clear commitment to technical assets responsible and intelligent management, in a life cycle perspective, so that they produce value for the company, its clients and other stakeholders and have an efficient, safe and sustainable performance, in this regard, EDP Distribuição defined its “Asset Management Policy”.
In order to embody this policy, it was necessary to review and adapt business processes and support systems. Therefore, in 2015 the JUMP Program was born – a program for Assets and Commercial Systems and Processes Management Modernization with a strong feature of digital transformation for the Assets Management area.
“Analytics bringing network assets into the future addressing tomorrow’s digital paradigm.” - Allen Vasconcelos – Head of Digital Hub
The EDP Digital Transformation process determined that the second JUMP phase should to be addressed in a different way – developing these tools internally, taking advantage of all organization know-how, instead of procuring support tools already on the market. Therefore, EDP Distribuição combined its technical knowledge with data analysis digital skills from the Digital Global Unit, and developed the Analytics 4 Assets project, focused on creating value for the company in a short-time – THINK BIG, START SMALL AND SCALE FAST.
The Analytics 4 Assets project took place between September 2019 and June 2020. It started with the definition of the scope and the modeling strategies to be used. Then, the visualization dashboard requirements were defined (final product) and the modeling itself started. Simultaneously, a Business Case validation was carried out and guidelines created to ensure an effective integration into EDP processes. This project brought together a multidisciplinary team of more than 70 people from both EDP and Accenture.
Analytics 4 Assets had two main segments, one to create a set of cloud-based DataLakes to support the project and future projects and analytical models, and another to build analytical models and dashboards to support asset management (within this programme (a) HV overhead network, (b) HV Circuit breakers and (c) HV/MV transformers).
